IPC J-STD-001

We have our own in-house qualified IPC J-STD-001D certified trainer.  All our production staff are either qualified or in course of training to the IPC-J-STD-001 application specialist standard.

The standard, IPC J-STD-001 is entitled "Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies", and is the standard which controls electronics assembly manufacturing throughout the world. It sets out the materials, methods, process controls, and verification techniques for producing reliable high-quality solder joints.

IPC-J-STD-001 application specialist training consists of 5 modules:

General requirements
Wire preparation & terminals
Through-hole PCB
Surface-mount PCB
Inspection & Process control

All assemblies are inspected to the IPC-A-610 Rev D standard, acceptability of electronic assemblies. The standard has 3 classes:

Class 1 -- General Electronic Products

Includes products suitable for applications where the major requirement is functionality of the completed assembly.

Class 2 -- Dedicated Service Electronic Products

Includes products where continued performance and extended life are required, and for which uninterrupted service is desirable but not critical. Typically the end-use environment would not cause failures.

Class 3 -- High Performance Electronic Products

Includes products where continued high performance or performance-on-demand is critical, equipment downtime cannot be tolerated, end-use environment may be uncommonly harsh, and the equipment must function when required, such as life support or other critical systems.

The customer (user) has the ultimate responsibility for identifying the class to which the assembly is evaluated. If the user and manufacturer do not establish and document the acceptance class, the manufacturer may do so.
