Accreditations and Approvals

As part of our commitment to getting customers right through the development process our experienced team here at Newbury Innovation nurse all designs through national and international standards as required.

We employ comprehensive testing through every phase of the design and manufacture process to identify any faults with the system, process or components in order to ensure the most reliable performance. No design is deemed complete until it has undergone testing and is proven to work.

More about our accreditations

Designing products for the Apple home hub and portable accessories IOT market is very much in our expertise.  We were first to the global marketplace with a IOT enabled Apple Home hub domestic electric heater and can support you in the development and then the accredited manufacture of IOS recognised MFI chip equipped devices for sale in a growing and global IOS Apple Ecosystem marketplace.

On the 1st of Jan 2021 CE remains relevant to products designed and manufactured in the UK as it represents our largest trading partnership from an accreditation standards point of view. However, for products that are intended to also sell in the UK CE was replaced with UKCA.

Largely aligned but certainly now separate and distinct, the likelihood is all new products currently in development in the UK will require both UKCA and CE marking.

We can support approvals from the first day that we sit down to talk about the product, we design the products to pass standards identified in the specification.

We have partner laboratories and technical writing resources to provide you with the least cost, most lean path to the approvals and accreditations that you require to bring your product legally to the marketplace.

With the manufacturing assembly division now accredited we are undertaking the steps required to allow us to design under AS 9100 too.

We have already implemented the stage gate type process flow that ensures your development follows a structured path as required by the aerospace industry and we apply much of the same controls to every project that we undertake regardless of the industry.

We have extensive experience in-house in the design and approvals for portable electronic products used in explosive environments.

We have worked with many of the UK Notified bodies to successfully take products to market using multiple protection methodologies including intrinsically safe and enclosure protection for portable and fixed electrical and electronic products.

We have formally ATEX trained team members who have held previous positions where they were the ATEX responsible person for that electronic product development organisation.

Be it offshore oil and gas, mining or any industry where a powder in the atmosphere makes it explosive, we understand the development process and the different protection methods to enable the right path to get your product through approvals for explosive environments.Get in touch to learn more.

Most product developments these days start off with sales in mind for local territories and it can be a complex consideration to develop a product for a true global market offering.

The reality is that many markets will allow the import and use of a portable electronic and electrical product provided it carries the accreditations from their direct neighbours where they likely have a reciprocal agreement in place. To that end there are in the UK accredited labs and licenced bodies that allow for approvals to be undertaken that allows your product to be shipped to all major markets.  Some of these submissions will take existing lab data and it’s a paperwork exercise and some of them will require an accredited lab to undertake the tests again from scratch.

Be it testing in the UK or sending the product to a lab within the target territory we can act as the material expert on your behalf to ensure the product passes and then the product carries all the correct marking to enable legal sales in that territory.

Whilst it is often cost effective when first bringing a product to market that requires a radio connection of some kind, to use a pre-approved radio module to speed up your approvals process. Cost reduction or space saving requirements may steer you to designing your own radio.

Best practice approach to the placement of the radio IC and the antenna and balun as well as the associated copper floods of the ground plane is to ensure both good initial radio RX and TX performance but to also ensure that you pass the wider susceptibility and interference testing to accredit your product.

We have developed many products from scratch both using modules and then migrating, or taking the route to have their own radio from inception, and have the knowhow and experience to deliver these designs.

It’s very often the case that specific tuning components, subtle antenna tuning corrections and the position and size of ground planes for a custom radio will iterate in the development cycle.

Whilst we can of course model the likely outcomes it’s always the case that ultimately radio behaviours, especially where high performance is required will require the product to test, measure and then iterate, to refine to reach both approvals and performance targets.

We can walk you through all this right at the start of the process and allow for iteration in the project plan that’s produced so that you have full vision of the likely path right from the start and are understanding, managing and mitigating the development risks from day one.
