Fast-Turnaround Leading Conformal Coating Solutions

Together with our sister company PCB Train, we offer a quality, efficient and fast-turnaround sub-contract acrylic conformal coating service, providing the ability for an online quote and order. Our conformal coating service uses the latest 6-axis CNC technology and UV curing to help you extend your PCB’s working life. We offer a wide range of environmentally friendly materials to suit every application and ensure it maintains long-term surface insulation resistance (SIR) levels.

Our Conformal Coating Process:

  • Preparation – To ensure the best adhesion, printed circuit boards are first treated to remove any potential contaminants such as dust and oils.
  • Masking – Masking is carried out to stop the unintended coating of components which could affect functionality in the end product.
  • Application – Conformal coating will either be applied by 6-axis CNC spray, or, for extremely low-volumes, by hand, using a brush or spray.
  • Curing – The conformal coating is cured by a precise combination of heat and UV light.
  • Inspection—While conformal coatings are crystal clear in daylight, they are clearly visible when illuminated by UV light, and this is how they are carefully inspected.

Our conformal coating process adheres to strict guidelines, starting with the paramount preparation of PCB assemblies for coating. Thus, we pre-treat and clean these before masking and coating to exceed the standards of IPC. The same level of rigour is applied to the entire conformal coating process, from masking and application to curing and inspection.

Why Choose the Newbury Group for Your Conformal Coating

We are the leading provider of 6-axis CNC-applied mask-less conformal coating services. This is a high-quality, computer-controlled and repeatable process.

The facility is entirely in-house, so conformal coating can seamlessly follow after inspection and test. The expense and quality risk associated with packing and unpacking when shipping to an outside conformal coating sub-contractor is avoided when using the Newbury Group and sister company PCB Train.

FAQ's

Conformal coating is not required for all PCBs however it is an essential for if your circuit is likely to be subjected to harsh environmental conditions in order to protect it and ensure longevity.

Conformal coating lifespan is affected by a number of things including: how it was applied, correct curing, the environmental conditions its subjected to including moisture and temperatures. All of these elements can effect how long it ‘lasts’ however as a general rule we would expect it will last the lifetime of the PCB.

The acrylic conformal coating we use here at Newbury Electronics/PCB Train is the ideal choice if you are concerned about future component replacement/rework.

Conformal coating is applied in order to increase the longevity of a PCB and its performance, protecting against the environment; however performance can be negatively affected if it is not applied properly (the correct thickness, trapped bubbles, incomplete coverage). Our use of the latest 6-axis CNC technology allows us to provide a precise coating service; efficient and effective with regular inspection for accuracy.

Ultimately however the positive effects on lifespan and reliability of conformal coating outweigh any performance concerns.

Conformally coated PCBs are inspected against the latest revision of IPC-A-610 section 10.8.
