For industrial OEMs and engineering teams

What industrial electronics projects need from a PCB partner

Industrial PCB programmes can involve different construction, material, assembly and supply requirements. The specification should be agreed around the application, product stage and required production route.

Defined PCB construction

Layer count, blind or buried vias, controlled impedance, rigid or flex construction and other board requirements can be reviewed before quotation.

Material and finish selection

Material choice, thickness, copper weight and surface finish can be specified for the required board construction, including FR4, polyimide and PTFE options.

Inspection and assembly control

3D AOI, X-ray, functional testing, traceability, cleaning and the applicable IPC acceptance criteria can form part of the assembly requirement.

Prototype to production

Prototype and small-batch manufacture can be followed by an agreed production route based on specification, quantity and supply requirements.

Engineering and manufacturability

DFM, DFT, PCB layout and electronic design support can be considered alongside fabrication and assembly where required.

Quote-ready technical information

Providing complete Gerber, drill, material and layer-build information, plus BOM, placement, test and quantity details for assembly, assists the quotation process.

A practical route through development

How an industrial electronics project moves forward

The exact gates depend on product maturity, but the route from requirement to production follows the same five stages for every industrial programme.

  1. Requirements

Share design data, target quantities, environmental and performance needs, timescales and relevant compliance constraints.

  2. Engineering review

Review PCB construction, laminate choice, component availability, DFM, DFT, cost drivers and the evidence needed for quotation.

  3. Prototype & NPI

Build early hardware, inspect and test it, capture issues and control design revisions before a larger batch is committed.

  4. Validation

Use controlled pilot or pre-production builds to validate repeatability, test coverage, documentation and acceptance criteria.

  5. Production

Move to the agreed production route with the quality, inspection, traceability and documentation requirements established for the programme.
